The closing of the first edition of the Digital Music Days conference witnessed a remarkable moment. When the closing keynote left a lasting impression. Throughout the event, attendees had engaged in sessions with industry giants such as Apple Music and YouTube. However, the spotlight shifted towards MERLIN’s CEO, Charles Caldas, as he was interviewed by Chris Cooke, a prominent figure from CMU/The Great Escape. The event organizers bestowed the Caldas award upon him, honoring his outstanding contributions.

As the conference approached its conclusion, Helen Smith, the Executive Chair of IMPALA, and Carmo Cruz, the Director of AMAEI, took the stage to extend their congratulations to Charles Caldas. They recognized his unwavering commitment to the advancement and advocacy of international independent music over the past decade. To commemorate his exceptional contributions, he was presented with the inaugural AMAEI CALDAS premium, an unexpected accolade.

The prestigious award, representing tremendous value. Takes the form of a traditional ceramic piece skillfully crafted by Bordallo Pinheiro. It harmoniously merges a gramophone with a rock ‘n roll mouth, resulting in a unique artwork symbolizing Charles’ tireless dedication and passion for the music industry. Manufactured in Caldas da Rainha, Portugal, it stands as a testament to his remarkable achievements.

During the closing ceremony, the organizers announced that future editions of the CALDAS AWARD will exclusively honor those who truly exemplify excellence, ensuring its significance remains intact. Charles Caldas, as the deserving inaugural recipient, received heartfelt gratitude once again for his extraordinary contributions.
